  • Use basic construction materials such as sand, bricks and concrete  

  • Build or take apart bracing, scaffolding and temporary structures  

  • Operate and tend to construction equipment and machines   

  • Follow construction plans and instructions given by supervisors

Most Construction Craft Laborer Job Corps graduates work for construction contractors. Working hours for construction craft laborers vary. Most work normal day shifts, but many work weekends depending on the deadlines of construction sites. 

 

The credentials you will earn ...

Students who complete a center-based Construction training area can earn nationally recognized credentials from such organizations as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). 

 

What you’ll need to start training ...

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent (can be earned at all Job Corps centers) 

  • Completion of all introductory and career preparation courses 

  • Passing scores on all written and performance tests 

  • Meet academic (math and reading) requirements

Jason Flannery has been a Construction Craft Laborer Instructor at Blackwell Job Corps Center for 15 years. Prior, he was in the construction field for 18 years. Jason’s knowledge in the field has provided him with the experience needed to teach and mentor students into successful careers in their chosen fields.
